Milwaukee Dancing Grannies plans to return to Waukesha

A year later and emotions are still running high. The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies lost four members of their community when a man drove through the Waukesha Christmas Parade in November 2021. He killed a total of six people that day and injured nearly 70 others. Walking in this parade brings back memories of that fateful day. “Knowing that our four fallen are not here with us, but also going back to Waukesha knowing that’s where their last steps were,” said Jean Knutson, co-leader of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies. The group plans to honor its fallen members on Sunday. “We’re carrying poster-sized pictures of the four fallen, some family members will be joining us,” Knutson said. The grandmothers also plan to hang gift bags with “Granny Strong” and “Waukesha Strong” bracelets inside. It’s their way of thanking the community for their love and support. “It’s the love and support of the communities that empowers us to keep moving forward,” Knutson said. The group is a fraternity that has been bonded by tragedy but is taking steps toward healing. “We’re building new memories but never forgetting what we had,” Knutson said. 2022 Waukesha Christmas Parade Details: Waukesha Christmas Parade (waukesha-wi.gov)
